Squeegee Your Rug?

Living in a place with hardwood floor throughout the entire house sounded link a good idea to me at first, until I saw the proof of how much our lab sheds! Clumps of hair would roll around the house like tumbleweeds.  Enough hair would accumulate under the couch weekly that it looked like it was some kind of teacup puppy.  I like to try and keep the home clean, but the dog hair every where made me want to give up.  No matter how many times I'd swiffer or vacuum, there was still hair somewhere.

Our new home has carpet!  At least with carpet in the house, it isn't as obvious that our dog sheds.  You can still see tufts of hair floating around on the tile, but since there is more carpet in the house, it isn't difficult to keep up with swiffering it up.  :)

Our chocolate lab, Bella Donna
Since we have carpet, I figured I'd try out the squeegee trick.  I purchased a cheap, no frills, squeegee

I noticed that it takes a few "brushes" of the carpet before you start seeing any hair...

Can you see it?

For me, once I start, I have to get every area Bella likes to lay on.  I do this before I vacuum the carpet. Thankfully the only carpeted area she's allowed on is the family room because if she was allowed upstairs, I'd probably go crazy trying to squeegee all of the bedrooms!

Mini fur ball

Voila!  Squeegees definitely work on getting pet hair up from carpet.  I'll be posting an update later on about this method because we plan on purchasing one of those vacuums "specially designed" to pick up pet hair.   So, it won't be to really follow up on the squeegee, more so to tell y'all if those vacuums really work and don't leave any hair behind.  ;)

Cheers!

Detox Bath: A Non-Food Tester Pin!

My husband recently got over a head cold last week.  Ladies, if your husband is like mine, when your hubby is sick or has a cold, he probably complains about feeling like crap and refuses to try taking anything for it because "they're men and they're going to just tough it out until it passes."  Until of course it gets to the "worse" part of the sickness/cold and they start acting like babies.

One of the remedies we used to try and help relieve his symptoms: a detox bath.  I'd been seeing pins on detox baths and how they help eliminate toxins from your body while you sit and sweat it out in the bath.  Why not give it a try?

The detox formula we tried was as follows:
 2 cups epsom salt
1 cup baking soda
1/3 cup hydrogen peroxide

Add the ingredients after drawing hot water for your bath.  Soak for 20-30 minutes.  Drink plenty of water while you soak to stay hydrated.  Be cautious as you stand up after you're done soaking, especially if you have a tendency to get light headed.  Take a lukewarm to cool shower after to rinse off the salts to prevent from getting itchy.  Rest for 30 minutes after the bath.

What happened after his bath?  He definitely did sweat out a lot and his sinuses cleared up.  Unfortunately they didn't stay open for long as they were clogged back up within a few hours.  He wasn't cured of his head cold, but after fighting the head cold for a little over a week, the detox bath did help him sweat it out because a few days later he was better!  Congestion disappeared, headaches stopped, and he stopped feeling sluggish.

Hubby definitely recommends trying the bath whenever you're feeling under the weather!  We'll be remembering this remedy for sickness in our house!

*After testing this pin out, he suggested every now and then I test a non food pin for the blog, so all of these testers will be labeled "Non-Food Tester."  :)
